How in the world does a person choose an editor?
• Maybe you’ve turned the longtime message of your heart into a rough draft and you’re not sure how to make it better or more focused.
• Perhaps your manuscript is finished and you need a trained set of eyes to review it for consistency and clarity before you start pitching it to agents and acquisitions editors.
• Maybe you’ve written an e-book to use as a lead magnet for your website and you want to fine tune it before sharing it with potential clients.
• Or perhaps you plan to self-publish a book and you’d like your words to be as polished as possible before you send them off to be printed.
Where to Start
You can find lists of editors online, but how do you know if the random one you choose is the right fit for you?
The short answer is, you can’t know that. Instead, you ask other writers for recommendations and referrals. That’s where I would start too, honestly. In fact, before you read another word from me, let me share what a few recent clients have said.
My Credentials
Here’s what else you should know about me. I’m a twice-traditionally published author, so I understand what it takes to write a nonfiction book from start to finish. As a journalist-turned-editor, I value writing that is concise, accurate and engaging, while also reflecting the unique voice of the author. I love helping other people tell their stories in writing, especially when those stories come from a place of deep purpose and passion.

How I Can Help You
If you’ve made it this far on your writing/publishing journey, you’re likely familiar with various types of editing, including substantive (or developmental) and line-by-line. (Here’s a good description if you’d like more specifics.)
What you will get from me is somewhat of a hybrid. For example, I might be doing mostly copy editing for you, but if I notice ways that your project could be improved structurally or even theologically, I will offer insights and suggestions about that too. (In case you are wondering—I know I would be—my rates typically range from 2 to 6 cents per word, depending on the amount of work required.)
Am I the Right Editor for You?
So let’s get back to my original question about choosing an editor.
• Do you want your written words to be concise, accurate and engaging, while also reflecting your unique voice as an author?
• Are you receptive to feedback that will make your writing stronger and more compelling?
If your answer to these questions is yes—and you have a solid nonfiction message you are working to express in book form—I’d love to chat with you about how I can help.

The Fine Print: My goal, always, is for your edited manuscript to be as error-free as possible. That said, all editors—including those who work for major publishing houses—are human. Mistakes slip through, so it’s always a good idea to hire a proofreader for one final review before your book goes to press.
